The Town of Franklin is accepting applications for a Community Traffic and Crime (C-TAC) Officer at the Franklin Police Department. The position will perform a wide variety of services directly and indirectly related to law enforcement work that focuses on specific crimes and crimes areas in the Town of Franklin for the protection of life and property.

Work will include enforcing North Carolina Traffic Statutes, North Carolina Controlled Substance Statutes, and other North Carolina General Statutes as needed; plan and implement crime reduction projects; collect, package, submit evidence properly for court cases; prepare and maintain court cases with integrity and credibility; support Patrol during busy periods; back-up Patrol during high-risk incidents; assist with various events/festivals throughout the year; Coordinate community and public service events and educational programs; Manage the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program; Manage the North Carolina Safe Kid’s Program.

Graduation from an accredited community college or university with a degree in criminal justice supplemented by law enforcement training and considerable drug enforcement experience in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, a NC driver’s license, and have completed requirements established by the NC Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers. Salary range for this position is $45,555 to $69,702. DOQ

Work will include patrolling the Town during an assigned shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments. An officer within his/her authority shall be responsible for the enforcement of the laws of the State of North Carolina, and the ordinances of the Town.

Applicants must have a high school diploma/GED or greater, must have completed basic law enforcement training and possess a BLET certificate, a valid driver’s license, and have completed requirements established by the NC Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers.

Hiring range for this position is $40,500 to $50,625 DOQ

Part-time Reserve Police Officers

The Town of Franklin is accepting applications for Part-time/Reserve Police Officers at the Franklin Police Department. The position will perform a wide variety of services directly and indirectly related to the enforcement of law, maintaining peace and dignity of the community and assisting the public.

Work will include patrolling the Town during an assigned shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments. An officer within his/her authority shall be responsible for the enforcement of the laws of the State of North Carolina, and the ordinances of the Town. Part-time/Reserve Officers will work a minimal combination of 8 events and/or shifts annually (annually is the fiscal year of July 1 through June 30) at a minimum of 6 hours per detail.

Police Officer Candidates

The Town of Franklin is accepting applications for Police Officer Candidates at the Franklin Police Department. This opportunity allows individuals to attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and work part-time while becoming a police officer.

Individuals who qualify will have their tuition covered by the Franklin Police Department and will be paid $14.00 per hour up to 30 hours per week while in school. Upon successful completion of the program and certification, individuals may have the opportunity to become a Police Officer with the Town of Franklin.

Applicants must have a high school diploma/GED or greater, possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.
